Position Summary & Duties Responsible

POSITION SUMMARY

Data Analyst will design, collection, compilation, analysis, reporting and maintenance of data and statistical information regarding inmate population and activities concerning the department's activities and operations. Analyze information utilizing analytical processes and statistical methods to identify patterns, data correlation and informational forecasting utilizing reporting software and other data sources. Assign work and supervise staff.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Develop and implement techniques to collect, compile and analyze a variety of data and statistical information on existing and prospective initiatives, programs and practices related to criminal justice system reform goals.
  2. Prepare presentations, charts, tables, reports and other documentation on statistical data and analysis of key measures for audiences including but not limited to the public, stakeholders, the state legislature, County officials and other agencies/departments as needed.
  3. Update and review research procedures keeping abreast of current methods and trends.
  4. Serve as main client interface on assigned technology projects which are small to medium in size, and require limited staff and resources; reviews recommendations with clients and receives approval to proceed; coordinates project activities with vendors and internal technology staff; maintains effective communications with users regarding vendor activities, problems, status, time-lines and other details; ensures compliance with County specifications and drives resolution of project related issues; monitors project budget and scope to ensure they remain within agreed upon parameters; reviews final outcomes with clients to obtain sign off that all work has been conducted in accordance with client requirements.
  5. Provide information pertaining to surveys and grants to various drug and alcohol institutions and government agencies as appropriate.
  6. Implement techniques in areas of ways to collect information; follow up and resolve problems or provide clarification in data use or collection methods.
  7. Conduct and prepare surveys utilizing departmental statistics.
  8. Assist department administration in issuing and interpreting operating policies. Recommend changes to improve workflow, simplify procedures, implement cost controls and establish efficient department operations.
  9. Compile and analyze performance data.
  10. Provides after hours technology support as assigned.
  11. Performs other job related duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Business Administration, Business Management, Public Administration, or related field, and two (2) years of related work experience in statistics/statistical analysis, research methodologies, or data collection and analysis. Any equivalent combination related to education and/or experience may be considered for the above requirements.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

The offer of this Bernalillo County position requires compliance with the following:

  1. Employee must successfully complete the post-offer employment medical examination and background investigation.
  2. Employee must comply with the safety guidelines of the County.
  3. Employee must complete required FEMA training(s) as assigned to position.
  4. Employee must complete required Supervisor classes if applicable.
  5. May be required to complete a criminal history screening for Caregivers Act, Section 29-17-1 through Section 29-17-5 NMSA 1978, new hires at the MATS facility will be required to complete a caregiver criminal history screening for all caregivers. Conviction of a disqualifying condition is cause for termination or sufficient reason not to hire if applicant has a disqualifying condition on their record at time of application.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  1. The majority of essential duties are performed indoors in a temperature-controlled environment.
  2. Indoor working surface is even and may be carpeted or tiled.
  3. Indoor surfaces are typically dry and may involve the use of stairs.
  4. Work hazards or potential work hazards include those of a correctional facility environment with exposure to noise and dangerous situations that could involve serious bodily injury and other health hazards.
  5. Works alone primarily, with or without directions. Works with a group at times and with a select team at times.

EQUIPMENT, TOOLS AND MATERIALS

  1. Equipment typically used to perform administrative duties includes the telephone, computer, telefax machine, photocopy machine, and pager.
  2. Materials and products typically handled in the performance of administrative duties include a wide variety of forms and paperwork, reports, various writing utensils and a wide assortment of other basic office supplies and materials.
