Position Summary:

The Physical Distribution Service Manager - BE (Business Execution) plays a critical role in the strategic management and optimization of physical distribution channels within the Medical Surgical supply chain. Reporting to the Supply Chain Service Category Manager, this position is pivotal in ensuring that the physical handling and distribution of medical and surgical supplies are executed with precision, efficiency, and in alignment with the organization's strategic objectives. The ideal candidate will lead initiatives to optimize distribution processes, cultivate strong partnerships with logistics providers, and drive innovations that enhance distribution effectiveness and customer satisfaction.

Role/Responsibilities:

  • Lead the formulation and execution of strategic distribution plans that ensure the efficient and timely delivery of products. Focus on optimizing distribution networks to support business goals, including cost reduction, service level improvement, and scalability.

  • Direct initiatives aimed at enhancing the physical distribution channels' efficiency, including warehousing operations, inventory management, and transportation logistics. Leverage analytics to identify bottlenecks and implement solutions to streamline operations.

  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with third-party logistics (3PL) providers, warehousing partners, and transportation carriers. Negotiate service agreements that align with company objectives and ensure high performance and reliability.

  • Champion the adoption of advanced technologies and systems within distribution operations, such as Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and Transportation Management Systems (TMS), to enhance visibility, accuracy, and efficiency.

  • Develop and enforce policies and procedures that comply with regulatory requirements related to distribution and logistics. Proactively identify risks in the distribution process and implement strategies to mitigate these risks.

  • Initiate and lead efforts to incorporate sustainable practices within the distribution operations, focusing on reducing environmental impact through optimized routing, energy-efficient warehousing, and waste reduction strategies.

  • Lead and manage a team of service leads, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence aligned to McKesson's ICARE and ILEAD values. Provide mentorship and guidance to team members to ensure professional development and growth.

Qualifications:

Experience:

  • Typically requires 9+ years of relative professional experience and 2+ years of management experience.

  • Leadership experience with proven ability to collaborate and influence decisions at SVP and/or BU President level

  • Ability to think big picture and connect market trends to shape internal strategies proactively

  • Advanced understanding of current and emerging healthcare analytics methodologies and applications in various sectors.

  • Effective leadership, training and presentation skills, and experience in leading multiple, highly-diverse teams to achieve results.

Specialized Knowledge/Skills:

  • Proven experience in physical distribution or logistics management, with a strong emphasis on strategy development, operational execution, and process optimization (preferably in the medical surgical supply industry or a related field).

  • Expertise in managing and optimizing distribution channels, including warehousing, inventory management, and transportation logistics.

  • Strong background in negotiating and managing relationships with logistics providers, carriers, and warehousing partners.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to leverage technology and data to drive improvements in distribution operations.

  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance and risk management practices related to distribution and logistics.

  • Commitment to sustainability and driving environmentally responsible distribution practices.

  • Superior leadership skills, capable of building and guiding a team towards achieving excellence in distribution operations.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree (in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or related field preferred), or equivalent work experience.

  • Advanced degree or professional certifications in logistics or supply chain management preferred

As part of Total Rewards, we are proud to offer a competitive compensation package at McKesson. This is determined by several factors, including performance, experience and skills, equity, regular job market evaluations, and geographical markets. In addition to base pay, other compensation, such as an annual bonus or long-term incentive opportunities may be offered.

Our Base Pay Range for this position

$134,100 - $223,500
